The Hilo Band utilizes optical sensors to indirectly track relative changes in your blood pressure throughout the day. To provide absolute blood pressure values in mmHg, the Hilo Band requires a process called calibration. Each calibration only takes a few minutes and is performed using the Hilo Cuff.
During the first week of use, calibration is required four times. This onboarding phase is essential to build your individual blood pressure profile and ensure accurate, reliable readings from the start.
4 Calibration must be performed successfully on 4 days to establish your personal reference values.
After the first week, calibration is required once per month to maintain accuracy over time.
Calibration Setup for Accurate Blood Pressure Measurements
The wristband and blood pressure cuff must be worn on opposite arms during calibration.
After calibration, always wear the wristband on the same wrist to maintain consistency.
Note: Blood pressure readings may vary slightly between dominant and non-dominant arms, with values on the non-dominant side potentially being lower.
Think of it like setting the time on a new watch. Even if you don’t set the time, the watch will still tick and show that time is passing—but it won’t necessarily match the actual time. The same concept applies to the Hilo Band: without calibration, the device will continue to track blood pressure trends, but the values will not be comparable to those from standard monitors. Just as you occasionally adjust a watch to keep it precise, monthly calibration ensures your Hilo Band stays accurate and reliable.
