I have gaps/empty slots/no measurements in my app. How can I get more readings?

The Hilo Band attempts several blood pressure measurements every hour, but not all of them will appear in your App. This is because Hilo only records blood pressure when you are still and at rest — ensuring accuracy and reliability. If movement or other factors interfere, the device postpones the measurement until a suitable moment.

On the “Insights” tab, you will see the total average of the last 7 days.

By clicking anywhere on the blood pressure card or the arrow at the top right of the card, you will be directed to the Detailed blood pressure screen, where the average of all blood pressure (BP) measurements taken within a 2-hour time slot will be displayed.

For example, even if the bracelet made 3 measurements between 14h and 16h, in the blood pressure screen you will see only one single value at the 14h - Line. If the measurement took a measurement at 13:55h and another at 16:05 you will not see any measurement at the 14h - Line.

Gaps in your readings are displayed as hatched (scratched-out) areas on the graph, together with a label explaining the reason.

To view all individual measurements taken, scrolling down on this screen, you can click on “See all readings” or generate a PDF health report: How do I generate a report of all the measurements? How can I share my data with my doctor?

There can be multiple reasons for empty slots:

In the Detailed Blood Pressure screen, you will now be showed some of the reasons:

  1. Movement

Blood pressure measurements are taken when you are at rest and still. No measurements are taken when you are physically active or moving your wrist.

  1. Bracelet strap was too tight or too loose

Adjust the strap, so the bracelet rests firmly yet comfortably on the skin. When fitted correctly, you should be able to slide a pencil between the strap and your wrist.

  1. Calibration needed

Hilo Band will stop measuring your blood pressure automatically if calibration is missed. This is required every 30 days.

  1. Band signal unstable

When your hands are cold, the blood vessels constrict and make it difficult for the bracelet to take a measurement. Keep your hands warm to increase the chances of a successful blood pressure measurement. (Or you have some contraindications that could create low perfusion (Aktiia Bracelet User Manual Section 4)

  1. Your bracelet still needs to sync

The measurements are stored in the bracelet and need to be sent to the app. It can take a while for data to be processed. For extended delays, check your internet connection.

  1. Bracelet out of battery

Keeping your battery charged ensures you get BP measurements throughout the day.

  1. Bracelet was not worn

If you take the bracelet off, remember to put it back on your wrist.

In summary

Accuracy is our top priority, when the bracelet detects wrist movements, it switches off the sensing modules, and you will see an empty slot in the Hilo App. The device will do its best to catch your next quiet period to measure again and continue filling in data slots.

Simply continue using the device as you will have more chances to get blood pressure readings into the App. Wearing the bracelet tight enough is very important (it should not be worn too loose, but still comfortable).
